The Chapel in the Cemetery

The population of the village expanded rapidly in the early 1800's as the mills employed more and more people. This resulted in the Church's graveyard not being able to accommodate all the burials required.
The New Cemetery was established on the East side of the river by The Luddenden Burial in the 1880's.

The non-conformists were having similar problems, so a portion of the new Cemetery was allocated to them.

The Chapel of Rest was built for their use at the East End of the Cemetery.
The Cemetery and the Chapel are both now the responsibility of Calderdale Council. The Chapel has not been used for many years and is in a poor state of repair and the Council would like to find another use for this building.
